Meet the Brownes
Kevin, Margi, Eleanor, and James live in Madison, Maine, right on Lakewood Golf Course, which Kevin owns & manages. It's a really beautiful 18-hole course right across Highway 201 from Wesserunsett Lake. The whole area is just gorgeous, and it's going to be perfect all summer long. The film was shot 4 weeks ago, just before Eleanor's 5th birthday, and James is 18 months old now (17 months in the photos). Margi is a fun, laid-back mama who gives the best of herself to her children, every day. She parents with ease and joy. I first met her last year at the Kennebec Montessori School, where I met and was so enchanted by sweet little Eleanor, the only child who always smiled at me.
I remember when James was born. He would fall asleep on the way to perschool pickup, and Margi would fold out the stroller and click his baby carseat into it just to walk to the entrance. Margi takes such care in everything she does for her two, and she gives 100% to both of them. Now James is into absolutely everything! He is just starting to walk, and it is *SO* cute! He likes music and following Eleanor around. Eleanor loved showing me her favorite doll, as well as the ducklings they're taking care of.
Margi & Kevin are renovating their beautiful and enormous farmhouse, and I just adore Margi's eye for design and color. They even made their own modern-looking wood mantle for one of the fireplaces. The house is a testament to modern design in the framework of Maine tradition. I love it!
We met up with Kevin halfway through our morning. He was out on the course doing some work to get the grounds ready for its opening, which was happening any day (it's open now!). Here in Maine, we have a whole month or so of "mud season" after the several feet of snow finally melt in April. It's a challenge for any golf course to manage this time of year. We took a walk across a field and through one of the trails in the woods at the edge of the course, where Eleanor decided she was bound and determined to carry this No Snowmobiling sign all the way back to the house!
It was a delight to see how much joy Kevin takes in being with his children and what a good sense of humor he has. I loved spending my morning with the Brownes, and I look forward to finishing their film this week!
