We Finally Found Them!
As I mentioned in my previous post, pick-your-own fruit can be an elusive and time-sensitive venture, especially with a toddler and a preschooler in tow and almost no GPS reception. Yep, you have to start relying on roadside signs and paying attention and remembering, just like in those first few years I was driving. I've had GPS in some form for almost all of my driving life. So it's refreshing when I have to learn an area without it. It takes me back to when I'd write down the Google directions with (get this) a *pen and paper* and bring it with me. That's how I navigated all over Arizona and New Mexico the year after I graduated from college.
This particular day, we had my sweet and fun friend Julie join me with her daughter. And we carpooled, and without GPS, so between this and the sound of 3 kids in a van on a new adventure, it was pretty exciting. I think cheese sticks were involved. We first went to the DEW (Domestic, exotic, and Wild) Animal Sanctuary, which is a great non-profit that rescues animals from all over the world. There aren't many images from this place, because I spent most of my time trying to convince C that it really was OK to feed the animals from the ice cream cone and intermittently chasing G when she ran away and started drinking someone else's sippy cup or climbing into their stroller.
But I did manage to catch one sweet moment between our preschoolers. Then, we meandered our way back around the Belgrade Lakes, stopping for a picnic in a town beach, then remembered our way back through a series of signs that promised raspberries. And then, we finally, *finally* found berries to pick! The holy grail! Berries as far as the eye could see.
The girls were done first, but C was trying to sneak off to eat and pick some more. I followed him with my camera. He was convinced he was not supposed to be sampling the berries *at all,* so the look he shot me when he got caught by his annoying mama is pretty gnarly. And I'll leave you with that parting shot. *Grrr!* hahahahaha!
